The piece that touches the ceiling (canopy) is slightly flawed. It has a loop on each side where the links hang down from. One of the loops is not hung exactly vertical so it makes the light fixture hang slightly offset from the canopy piece, by a few millimeters. Since I am only using a few links on each side to hang the fixture, you can see that the light is not hung exactly underneath the canopy.
