This is a very servicable lamp. My only caviate is the fact that it is hard to change bulbs. My old lamp was the same design but it had little tabs that you could simple turn in order to get the protective glass off. This thing has a tricky two gap ring that really requires a lot of fooling around to get off and on in order to change the bulb.

The lamp arrived well packaged and required no assembly. It is well constructed from quality materials. The design, though it has been around for decades, is still quite elegant - mine is in polished steel - and it enhances my desk. The three-position switch allows me to select two different illumination levels, which can be useful at different times of the day. The area illuminated is perfect for reading or writing. All in all, a very nice lamp and a bargain at the price.

I've used this light for 20 years over my grand piano, but recently needed to replace it. Because it is adjustable, it can be placed to shine well on the music and not in the eyes. This light has two brightness settings, has a nice graphic look and is very economical to run. The light bulb is a little difficult to replace, but it doesn't need to be replaced very often, and if i can do it anyone can!

There were no directions with the lamp. Overall the lamp has excellent light.
