Why did I spend over 40 bucks for a flush ring pull when larger steel ones are available at the local hardware store?
Your best foot forward, that's why. This pull ring is in the middle of the floor - very visable.
I spent the money once and got the look I wanted and will not have to lament being too cheap to get the right peice of hardware for the job at hand.

We were very pleased with the look and quality. Works perfect for our pantry door (replaced our existing handle due to our wall oven's door opening, as we needed a flush mount handle).

The quality of the hardware that I ordered was better than I expected. I did have to wait for my shipment as the items were out of stock. I received a phone call from a real person explaining the backorder, offering an alternative and giving me a firm ship date. Excellent customer service and again quality product.
