For ceilings 9' and higher, an extension downrod may be required to bring the ceiling fan down to the proper height above the floor.
To ensure safety, ceiling fan blades should be at least 7' from the floor but no higher than 8-9' in order to best cool a room.
For optimum air circulation, it is most efficient to have the fan blades 8' to 9' above the floor. For ceilings that are higher, see the chart below with suggested downrod length for ceiling heights.
