I had always used the fan remote which sat on the night stand. I wanted an in wall. I have two of these now. One is the master bedroom and one in the guest bedroom. You don't need to hard wire it. It uses a 9V battery. Fits into a standard light switch box. I've had mine for about 6 months now and no problems what so ever.

All in all the light fixture was a good buy and it complements the bedroom in which it is installed. The remote control, however, could not be used because the receiver would not fit into the canopy of the CD52W ceiling fan. If there were a larger canopy replacement it could conceivably fit.
