Adding a fan switch to an existing fan can be complicated. First, you need to know the kind of electric wire running to the fan switch box and then to the fan. (The wiring is either the older 2-wire system or the newer 3-wire system). There are different switches for 2-wire and 3-wire systems. This is the switch for the older 2-wire system.
