After finally having assembled my lamp, I am quite pleased with it. However, the assembly was not easy! The lamp is delivered in sections, each section attached to the lower one by the electric cord that runs up to the switch/fixtures, with two "washers" between each section - small metal pieces - whose function is to help the sections fit together smoothly. The instructions do not tell you where to start (top or bottom?), and I started at the bottom, pulling the cord through the bottom base until taut. However, this only helped with the first two sections I assembled. This procedure was repeated until the last one, the torchiere section, when it was no longer possible to pull the cord. I was forced to assemble this joint by simply forcing the sections together and hoping it was possible. Upon trying to stand it up, I found that the sections had not seated squarely on one another. I had a lamp that was rather drunken (Tipsy) in appearance. I needed to adjust and tighten each section individually, which then again disrupted the ones above and below. Altogether, it took me probably over an hour to "get it right". I am now pleased with my lamp, and would not recommend anyone purchasing this lamp unless they had either assembled a similar lamp in some prior existence, or had a lot of patience! Considering the price of the lamp, it should have been easier to assemble.
