This a nice lamp, and the quality of the finish and materials is very good, and it throws a very nice, bright white light, easy to read by. The switch has a low position, and that light it great for a softer lighting situation. But it is a little shorter than you may expect--I thought i would be about 4" taller, just from the pictures. It does measure as they describe, so make sure it works for you. As it turns out, it works well for us, but it would be nice if it was a little taller. Also, the halogen bulb throws significant heat! Nice right now in a New England winter, but come summer, it may be a bit much.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
