This is a very servicable lamp. My only caviate is the fact that it is hard to change bulbs. My old lamp was the same design but it had little tabs that you could simple turn in order to get the protective glass off. This thing has a tricky two gap ring that really requires a lot of fooling around to get off and on in order to change the bulb.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I've had this lamp for over a year now and it is working great. The halogen light is excellent for reading. Also, the design is very appealing and the materials are of very good quality.

This is a very good price for a nice lamp. I have not had to change the bulb yet so I don't know about the difficulties some people describe. Purchasers should know that the head of the lamp does not swivel; it only goes up and down, and it doesn't have that little "wand" on the head, so you have to touch it directly. It came fully assembled, with a bulb, so all you have to do is plug it in.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
