Since I couldn't return the lamp without incurring major restocking fees, I decided to make "lemonade out of a lemon". I donated the lampshade, and took out all the electrical wiring, and now it's a piece of modern art in my dining room.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
