The original apothecaries had top mounted glass matching the main glass. Its purpose was to control the candle flames and protect the ceilings. Artcraft has recreated this look in a variety of sizes with starburst etched hand blown glassware. The beauty of these hand blown urns is accentuated in its artistic shape and seamless glass finish. It's not a top quality light but for the price it's pretty good. One of the wires inside was disconnected so my husband had to take it apart to figure out why it didn't work. Once he connected it, it worked fine.
It would look a bit better from a distane.
Given a choice I would buy this light again.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Although the light is what I am looking for, and from far away (hanging from the ceiling) looking at it closely, you can tell it's not the highest quality of materials or craftsmanship. I do like it, but I also feel the price is a little high for the quality. This light could easily sell for $100 and be more worth the price
