I bought one of these lamps and was so pleased with it I bought another one a few weeks later. It is made of very heavy materials (metal). The lamp can be adjusted at numerous points to put light where you want it. It has two brightness settings. I chose the brushed nickle finish, which looks great. The light is a bright halogen which does get very hot, but provides excellent illumination. I have tried one of those fluorescent Ott lights and found it to be too dim for me. I have noticed that if your reading chair is against the wall it may be difficult to aim the light due to the counter weight that sticks out in the opposite direction of the lamp.
