The ceiling light we received actually had more red and green in it than appears in the ad picture. We were worried that it might appear garish, but it didn't. The photo I've provided was taken with a flash with the light on in a darkened room. The fixture provides plenty of light in an indirect fashion which is what we wanted. It is in the dining area of our kitchen. We get many compliments on the beauty of it.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The light looked cheap when it was taken out of the box and continues to look cheap installed. The shade does not appear to be made of glass.
