This light has a nice contemporary but classic style that was perfect for our 8'foot ceiling in our entryway.
I would only recommend this light for an 8' or 9' ceiling. If you can't see the silver mounting piece or the entire light from the side when you are looking up at it, the light just doesn't have enough character. I saw it in a high end store with tall ceilings and all you could see was the bottom diffuser and it just didn't look very good. This light is perfect for a unique looking, close to the ceiling application. Looks great.

Great light - looks perfect in our bedroom and has a diffuser (didn't see that on the description) which helps disperse light and we use with a dimmer.
