Reading other reviews, esp. the advice on how to install, was helpful and persuaded me to buy this light. I bought 9 units, in two different sizes. Being able to dim my undercabinet lights is wonderful, and the price was the best I found. At night, it looks so great! I also like that I can individually turn off one or more lights, if I just want to use one as a night light or I'm saving electricity. Each ZeeLine unit has a High-Off-Low switch, so you have many options. In addition to being able to install a dimmer switch and have that lovely back-glow to show off a beautiful kitchen, I have good bright lighting when I need it. The lights are hard-wired and you turn them on and off using a wall switch. You can install a dimmer switch as an option. We had an electrician do this. In addition to the wall switch, each unit has its own on/off switch that can be used individually. Hope I'm being clear, as this was something I wondered about before I purchased the lights.
Recently installed these lights and the light they cast is great. We have them on a dimmer, but having the high/low option is still really nice.
2 things to be aware of:
-Though they don't burn as hot as halogen, they still produce a lot of heat. Don't keep your bread on the shelf directly above them unless you want toast!
-For Installation: though they have knockout holes all the way around the outside, on the inside, the wires are only long enough to join properly if you bring your electrical in on the LEFT hand side of the fixture. This is not the biggest deal on a small light, but on the larger ones it is a real hassle. You can make an extra splice within the light itself, but this is not proper, so try to bring your power in towards the left side of where you want the light, and/or leave at least the length of the light fixture in EXTRA wire hanging out when you bring the power in. It might seem like a waste, but it is WAY less hassle than coming up short!
I bought eight of these to replace our existing fluorescent Alico fixtures and the quality of the light is infinitely better - a nice, warm light. They still run HOT though - you do not want to keep chocolate chips or anything that may melt on the bottom shelf of your cabinets. I can't speak to the ease of installation as we hired an electrician to do it, since we wanted them wired all together and connected to a wall switch.
