I previously purchased two of these for my master bedroom - one on each side of our teak "opium" platform bed from Bali and antique chinese wood carvings above the headboard. These sconces provide soft lighting that casts on the wall above and ceiling (not in your eyes), reflecting subtle shadows on the art work below. A warm orange seeps thru the gaps in the lamp's construction, adding rich color to the room. They also blend well with the the plantation style (wicker) fan above the bed. For this mix of Asian and plantation style, they're perfect. I just purchased a second set for another home and look forward to seeing the finishing touch this will add to that room. As far as installation, each lamp is wired into the wall and has a dimmer switch. I'm lucky that my husband does all this work himself. If you're not able to do this yourself, it's well worth it to have this done so you don't see any wiring and get the full range of optimal lighting adjustment. They are tall, so measure first!
These lamps look great, but be warned that they aren't really sconces, in that the wires come out the bottom of the lamp, and terminate with a plug. I bought them for above a large fireplace, but they were too tall, and I needed to connect them directly, and without messing with the lamp too much, it was impossible. I will be using them in a different location, where I can plug them in, and I'm sure they will be beautiful there... they really are nice.... sort of Africany tropical... which was the look I wanted.
