Spring is the perfect time to spruce up your patio, and we have plenty of ideas on how you can make some quick and easy improvements just in time for warm weather.
If you don’t know where to start, think first about how you want to use your patio. Is it a getaway for private relaxation, or a place to entertain? Is it an airy outdoor office, or a no-work fun zone?
Whatever you decide, these tips will help bring your patio to life. In Part I, we start with the basics:
1. Pressure wash your patio.
Every new work of art deserves a fresh canvas. Plus, you’ll probably be surprised how much a good pressure washing can improve a patio; your wood, stone and steel could all use a good spritz after a frosty winter of disuse.
2. Assess your patio furniture.
Do you need new patio furniture, or will a little DIY do the trick? Are you missing any essential items? Whether you’re rolling solo or hosting a patio party every night, a comfy conversation set is a good thing to have.
3. Invest in all-weather upholstery.
Check your outdoor furniture upholstery for rips, cracks and mold. If you find anything that can’t be repaired, spring is the time to replace it – so you can get a season of new use before you have to cover it up.
4. Start your spring planting – on the patio!
It’s not too late! Despite a warm winter in many places, there’s still time to plant all kinds of flowers, veggies and herbs. Check out this quick guide if you don’t know where to start.
5. Consider your layout and patio privacy.
There may not be much you can do to increase privacy without a big investment (fencing, landscaping, etc.), but you can probably tweak your layout to put you and/or your guests in line of sight of something more pleasant than the neighbor’s laundry line.
Check in tomorrow for Part II, where we’ll share some easy ways to decorate now that your patio space is all spiffed up.
