Maximizing space is always a good goal to have in any home layout, and that’s especially true if we’re working with a smaller area like a crowded kitchen.
In fact, the kitchen is where everyone could use more room; to maneuver, to store, to cook and to eat, if that’s an option. So, how do we make more space in the kitchen if there’s already a shortage of available square footage?
There are a lot of answers, but if you want to make a big impact with one graceful move, your best bet may be finding the perfect kitchen table. Here are some ideas:
(Double) Drop-Leaf Tables
Drop-leaf tables are great space-savers and come in styles that will match most looks (although they look especially cute in country kitchens). The limitation, though, is that even double drop-leaf tables require a bit of room to remain functional.
And, if that’s the case in your tiny kitchen, you may want to try something else …
(Single) Drop-Leaf Tables
Drop-leaf tables with a single leaf are rare animals but, if you can find one, they’re great for tight areas where a second leaf will never be needed and takes up too much room even when it’s down.
Gateleg tables, which typically have two longer leaves that fold down to the floor to create a very slim unit, may be the best of all these options because you can easily store it or push it up against the wall when not in use.
And, this goes for all kinds of folding tables, many of which can easily be classed up with a little DIY inspiration.
These are great, too, and are better for small spaces than tables with loose leaves, because if you have a small kitchen chances are good you have limited space to store those leaves elsewhere.
NOTE: Beware Round Tables
There’s nothing wrong round or oval tables, of course, but they may not always be the best choice for a small kitchen. You lose surface area in the curve, and you may also lose some floor space if your chairs won’t tuck in all the way.
Keep these ideas in mind and turn your tiny kitchen into the top spot in your home.
