Volunteers from ATGStores.com, Lowe’s and Porch.com recently joined nonprofit Rebuilding Together Seattle (RTS) for the “Rebuild-a-Block” project, a two-day volunteer event aimed at building and improving low-income homes in Seattle’s Othello neighborhood.
RTS helped organize 150 volunteers for the event, which focused on two areas of improvement: building four tiny homes for families without shelter, and providing painting and repair for four other neighborhood properties.
Othello Tiny Village
The four tiny homes that were built over the two-day period are now part of the Othello Tiny Village and will help many transitional low-income families in the area.
The village, which is located near the Low Income Housing Institute, can accommodate up to 100 people and will serve a vital need in the community as Seattle attempts to tackle homelessness in many neighborhoods.
“This is the largest project that RTS has done in partnership with Lowe’s,” said RTS Executive Director Nicole Ferrer.
Critical Home Repair
In addition to the tiny homes, volunteers also provided intensive home repair for four local families in the Othello neighborhood.
The homes were in need of major interior and exterior rehabilitation that included window repair, securing doors and fencing, replacing appliances, painting, floor repair and accessibility modifications.
Two homeowners have lived in their respective homes for more than 30 years and are fixtures in the close-knit community.
All That’s Good Deeds
ATGStores.com, which has partnered with Lowe’s on past community projects, sent a total of 50 volunteers to join others from Lowe’s and Porch.com to help with the work.
“We’re excited to kick off the third year of our All That’s Good Deeds program with the Seattle Rebuild-a-Block project,” said ATGStores.com President Michelle Newbery. “Rebuilding Together, the nonprofit that organized this event, is a vital community asset and we’re proud to partner with them, Lowe’s and Porch to make Seattle a better place to live.”
