Best Tiki Torches for Your Luau

Tiki culture cuts an interesting path through America that was – and still is – largely driven by our interpretation of Polynesian design, and few things are more emblematic of that design than the tiki torch. The traditional tiki torch, which may or not be made by the brand of the same name, is typically a dried bamboo affair that is marketed at a reasonable price and will last a good, long while – if you take care of it. Then, on the other end of the spectrum, there are the more permanent designs made of durable material. But, which type is better? Traditional Tiki Torches Are … … Cheap. This is probably the most attractive thing about the standard model. On the high end, you’ll be paying around $7 for one, but you can often find them for less, especially if you buy them in bundles. … Disposable. Torches made from bamboo are literally disposable – and even biodegradable – but they’re also disposable in the sense that if it breaks or succumbs to the elements because you forgot to store it after use it’s not the end of the world. … Accessible. You don’t really have to think too far ahead in planning your next luau when it comes to torches because you can get them just about anywhere. Designer Tiki Torches Are … ... Durable. As previously mentioned, one great feature of designer tiki torches is that they’re made to last. A little bad weather or rough handling isn’t going to warp or crack the material, which sometimes occurs with the bamboo variety. … Stylish. Traditional tiki torches are also stylish (who doesn’t love torches?), but they are also familiar. Designer torches come in many different styles that reach beyond the Polynesian interpretation. … Brighter. Many designer torches offer variable flame settings so you have more control over the ambience at your next beach party as well as the amount of fuel you’re using.
