Dining Areas with Restaurant Style

What is it about restaurant dining that makes it feel so easy and relaxed? Sure, it’s the comfort that comes with knowing you don’t have to do the dishes, but a lot of it also has to do with great interior design.

When you remove the food and the service from the equation, what do we have left? Identify those things and bring them into your kitchen and dining area, and you’ll be a little closer to having that restaurant feel at home.

Mood Lighting & Menu Management

A big difference between dining in and dining out is the lighting. For whatever reason, although we obviously enjoy eating in low light (as we do in restaurants) many of us eat at home with the equivalent of spotlights in our faces.

Why do we do this? For some, it’s because no one got around to installing a dimmer switch (which is pretty easy to do, by the way). For others, it’s because there’s always too much back and forth from the kitchen to do in the dark.

TIP: Get that dimmer installed! Then, make sure everything is on the table before you dine, so you can turn down the lights and enjoy your meal without getting up.

Sumptuous Seating

Did you know that some restaurants offer seating that’s less than comfy to help encourage faster turnover? Pretty sneaky, right?

Well, that’s not gonna fly in your house! You want the comfiest seats possible, so think about things like armrests, cushy padding and even swivel action for your dining chairs.

TIP: Bench seating will really deliver that restaurant feel if you wanna go all the way. It’s not for every dining space, but if you have the room it’s worth it.

‘Sweet Celsius, You’re a Friendly Fahrenheit’

Some eateries are just way too hot or way too cold, and it may be for a number of reasons – they’re trying to speed up turnover (again), they’re trying to cut costs, their HVAC is on the fritz … it’s hard to say.

Thankfully, it’s a lot easier to get the optimum temp in your dining area than in a restaurant, if only because there are fewer people that are (hopefully) easier to please at home.

TIP: Consider a hyper-silent ceiling fan above your dining table for more on-point temperature control while you eat.

Top it all off with a private chef – or maybe a great new recipe book – and you’ll be looking forward to dining in a whole lot more.
