DIY Ideas for Table Runners

Table runners are a quick and easy way to jazz up your holiday dining arrangement and there are roughly a zillion options when it comes to style – many of which you can craft yourself. For those of you who aren’t hip to the table-runner scene this might be your year to give it a try. They’re more than just decorative; table runners can function as a full-length trivet that gives you a place to set your serving dishes without worrying about doing damage to your table (or tablecloth, if you decide to double down). Table runners are easy to find in just about any design you want, but if you want to DIY it … 1. Cloth Sometimes you just can’t beat the original … but you can improve upon it with a personal touch if you have a little time and a sewing machine. You could just use a strip of cloth snagged from the bargain bin at the hobby shop, but unless you add some trim it’ll unravel over time. Then again – bargain bin! One use may be all you need to get quality bang for your buck. 2. Paper The whole farm-to-table, back-to-basics movement in food has made simplicity a cornerstone of the new design trends forming around dining experiences. That means using a swatch of butcher’s paper (or other craft paper) as a table runner is now a cool thing to do. You can find big spools of paper at craft shops and office supply stores. 3. Wood No one said a table runner had to be flexible. While plywood is probably not the way to go if your aim is to keep things classy, it doesn’t have to be a slice of mahogany, either. You may have to saw or join pieces together to get the right size. Then sand it and paint it for an elegant look or leave it rough for the farmhouse feel – either way, it will be a neat addition to your holiday layout. ATGStores.com wishes you luck on your next DIY adventure.
