Some people will argue there is no such thing as an easy bathroom makeover, but any plan that doesn’t involve painting or plumbing probably has a better chance of winning hearts and minds.
Bathrooms are always begging for makeovers, likely because they suffer so much abuse. The nicest bathroom in the world can be obliterated by a family of four in about six hours, give or take, and the need for upkeep and updating is just a part of life.
Below are a few items that can be switched out or mixed and matched to keep things fresh and add a little flair when the bath area starts to show a little wear and tear. (We’ve also provided handy difficulty ratings to help you get an idea of the work involved.)
Hanging a Mirror
A new mirror can alter the entire look of a bathroom and is an important part of the décor, yet is often very easy to update. Mirrors that are affixed to the wall and not part of the vanity can be easily switched out to create an entirely fresh feel in a bathroom.
As difficult as … doing a “cannonball.”
Installing Bathroom Lighting
Much like the mirror, bathroom lighting is an easy update if you’re using the same wiring and mounting area, and it can make a big impact on the mood of the room. Morning people usually like it bright and shiny with lots of light, whereas others may choose to put that new light on a dimmer.
As difficult as … using the supermarket self-checkout lane.
Mounting a Towel Bar
Again, a towel bar is another easy swap and a nice touch that can spruce things up. This goes for most bathroom hardware, actually, but towel bars get lots of use and can become squeaky and loose. Plus, there’s less agonizing over finishes and the eternal knobs vs. pulls debate.
As difficult as … boiling an egg.
Replacing a Bath Mat
Many designers may disagree, but every tootsie in the land insists that bath mats are a must. They’re also one of the easiest ways to give a bathroom a facelift (along with changing out the shower curtain). Bath mats can be coordinated with the paint, towels or décor, or can go it alone with thankful feet as their only friends.
As difficult as … napping.
