At first blush, removable wallpaper sounds like a bad idea in almost every way – isn’t our first goal when hanging wallpaper to make sure it never, ever comes down?
Usually … yes. That’s exactly the goal; after getting it on straight, getting it to stay on is the next big win. Now, wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t have to worry about all that measuring, gluing and eventual disappointment?
Welcome to the world of removable wallpaper. Let’s take a look at the pros:
Pro #1: You can remove it.
Sure, you can remove regular wallpaper, too, but if you’ve ever had to do it then you know what it’s like – about as enjoyable as opening a bag of angry hornets.
Pro #2: Temporary wallpaper is (more) affordable.
This isn’t so much the case when you’re comparing products straight up, but adding in the labor and material costs for conventional papering flips the equation.
Pro #3: There are plenty of designs.
There may not be as many designs as with the regular kind, but there are enough to keep you busy while you daydream about Pro #4 …
Pro: #4: It’s easier to hang.
This claim may rely in part on a leap of faith, but the fact that self-adhesive wallpaper can be repositioned while it’s being applied should tip the scales.
But, what about the cons?
Con #1: It’s not “real” wallpaper.
This isn’t true; it’s just not traditional wallpaper. But, there are those who don’t go in for unconventional alternatives no matter how snazzy they might be, and that’s okay.
Con #2: It’s removable.
But, wait, isn’t that in the list of Pros? Yep, but it’s not a good thing for some people, and for others it implies it may be too easily removed (although it’s quite durable).
Con #3: There are limited designs.
Again, it’s all a matter of perspective. There aren’t as many designs as with traditional wallpaper, but there are plenty.
