To Our Veterans: Thank You
The story of the U.S. veteran is the story of the nation.
From the American Revolution to our most recent conflicts today, the American soldier (and airman, sailor, and Marine) has put country before self in the most harrowing of circumstances time and time again. For many of us, there is no way to imagine the responsibility and sacrifice that comes with wearing the uniform.
That’s because although the U.S. military is the second-largest in the world, there are less than 3 million active-duty and reserve personnel in all branches combined. The most recent census put the U.S. population at just over 314 million, which means that less than 1% of the country currently serves in the military.
In other words, seeing a serviceman or woman is kind of like seeing a celebrity.
Yet, for some reason we often don’t treat these people like celebrities. We treat them like they were always there, and that they’ll always be there. After all, it’s easy to take service that you don’t see for granted. The reality, though, is that there are millions of hidden levers being levered and switches being switched that make this country tick, and a great many of them are operated by a small handful of people who will never ask for a word of thanks or expect anything in return for their tireless effort.
These ever-vigilant service members have no agenda beyond the safety and security of America. Politicians may wrangle and ramble, but our brothers and sisters in arms exist outside of all that – in the space between us and a dangerous world. It can be a lonely and lethal place, but they make it their home so the rest of us can know peace.
All of us at ATGStores.com would like our veterans to know that we see you, and we appreciate the sacrifices you make every day to keep us safe and out of harm’s way.
